Sunny Run, Radiant Runners

Fourth consecutive LUX double victory over 10 km – 1,850 finishers – Volksbank Trier Eifel youth races in the hands of the talented athletes of PST Trier

Far from gray November and dreary gray skies, the sun was shining not only on the mountain peaks, but also in the Sauer Valley – and with it, almost 2,000 runners. The area around Langsur defied the forecast of predicted fog on the second Saturday in November. Just in time for the start of the 33rd DEULUX-Lauf race, the sun broke through the gray. This led to an even better atmosphere and even better conditions.

The young athletes in the Volksbank Trier Eifel children’s and youth races took full advantage of this. 526 young athletes up to 15 years old crossed the finish line after completing the 360-meter, one-kilometer, or two-kilometer races. All the victories went to Trier’s Post-Sportverein: Lilly Förster, Germany’s fastest 14-year-old over 800 to 2,000 meters, won in 6:51 minutes, and her clubmate Constantin Peters won the longer distance in 6:42 minutes. Anna Thielen (3:38) and Jona Boelter (3:37) won the exciting 1,000-meter race.

Over 10 km, the Luxembourg winning streak, which began in 2022, continued. A brief lapse in concentration cost Alois Ebel the chance for the first German victory in four years (when former Cologne Marathon winner Tobias Blum won). The 32-year-old focused solely on the runner directly in front of him and noticed too late the gap that this runner had opened up to the Weicherding brothers, Gil and Charel (both Celtic Diekirch). The race was effectively decided after just 3 km. The 24-year-old Gil ultimately prevailed in the brotherly duel, finishing in 30:40 minutes against his two-year-older brother Charel (30:52). Ebel, running for the Westnetz team “Hart am Limit 2025,” missed his personal best by just six seconds, finishing in 31:05 minutes despite running the 7km solo.

The best woman was Anny Wolter for the third time, following her victories in 2022 and 2024. The 32-year-old from the Luxembourg club CA Fola had a prominent pacemaker in her teammate Jenny Gloden. Two kilometers from the finish, Wolter used the energy she had saved by drafting behind the Grand Duchy’s half-marathon champion to accelerate. Gloden (36:04) was equally delighted with her victory and a new personal best time of 35:52 minutes. Teresa Frank secured third place in 36:21 minutes.

The runner from LT Schweich thus secured the overall victory in the 4-Regio-Cup, whose final race was the DEULUX Run. In the men’s competition, Tobias Paszkiet (Silvesterlauf) won the title. The 31-year-old finished 13th in 32:44 minutes, just three seconds off his personal best, but clearly outpaced Martin Müller (18th in 33:19). The runner from LG Meulenwald Föhren couldn’t make up the deficit in the cup standings, but was pleased with a personal best for the year and finished second in the cup.

A total of 1,850 runners crossed the finish line at the 33rd DEULUX Run. This is roughly the same number as in 2024 (1,862) and the fifth-best result in the history of the cross-border race, which began in 1992.
